Zonopterus imitans AURIVILLIUS

Zonopterus imitans Aurivillius, 1910, Arkiv. Zool., 7 (3) : 10 (Matang).; 1912, Coleopt. Cat., 39 : 299.

Diagnostic characters : prothorax rounded, unarmed; basal half of elytra brownish ochraceous followed by a narrow yellow transverse fascia behind on a blackish ground color of the apical half.

Mouth parts fuscous to pitchy; aclypeus corneous, castaneous; remainder of head black with greenish metallic tinge; vertex with fuscous tomentum.; antennal scape, segment 2 and 2/3 of segment 3 black; 1/3 apical of segment 3, entire. 4 - 7 yellow; 8 - 11 black; prothorax fusco-magenta with black tomentum on median of apex and basal constriction; pronotum with ferrugineous tomentum along median and disc; scutellum black; basal half of elytra brownish ochraceous, a little behind it a transverse yellow fascia; apical half chalybeate-black with dense black pubescence; meso- and metasternum chalybeate black; abdomen pitchy, posterior margin of each segment with a transverse slivery band.

Head vertical in fronts; mandible short, deflexed; labrum transverse, same size as aclypeus; clypeus also transverse, coarsely punctate, almost perpendicular with frons; the latter squarish, anterior margin glabrous, posterior tomentose, with a median groove that end between upper eye lobe; raised between antennal insertion; antennifer tuberculate. Antenna shorter than body, tip reaching the narrow elytral fascia; scape asperate, punctures big, notched near apex; 3 longest, very much widen at apex; 5 - 10 angulate ectoapically, tricarinate. Prothorax transverse with an annular ring at anterior margin and a much narrower one at basal constriction which is very tomentose; side rounded, extremely dilated and expanded, as wide as elytra, very minutely granulo-striate; pronotum with a transverse depression behind apex and a well-defined semicircular sulcus at both sides, medianly tomentose; side of prothorax coarsely puncto-striate; fore intercoxal process horizontal, narrow between coxae, dilated and medianly knobbed at posterior. Scutellum triangular, apex rounded, pubescent. Elytron 5 X as long as broad; parallel, gradually rounded at 1/4 form apex; apex conjointly rounded, not dehiscent; basal half corneous, glossy, obscurely intricate; blackish portion finely granulate, very pubescent. Legs : fore and mid femora moderately clavate or dialted at apex, surface glossy, evenly punctulate; hind femora 2 X as long as the front pairs; tibiae carinate ventrally, apex of fore and middle pairs with dense bristles; hind tibiae compressed, inner margin straight, outer curved making it gradually widen towards apex.
