Examnes longicornis PASCOE

Examnes longicornis Pascoe, 1869, Trans. Ent. Soc. Lond., ser 3, 3 : 540. - Hudepohl, 1990a, Entomofauna, 11 (3/2): 90.

Head, antennae, prothorax and elytra fuscous with scattered greyish pubescence; behind upper eye lobe with 2 greyish spots of aggregated pubescence; side and latero-dorsal of prothorax with flavo-fumate pubescence; pronotum with greyish spots anterior of side of median; scutellum white; femora fuscous with reddish tinge on clavated portion; tibiae castaneous.

Head slightly raised between antennae, ridge concave; labrum bilobe at side; gena very short, base of mandible almost touching anterior of eye; gula coarsely punctate; vertex with a glabrous median stripe that bent at right angle posterior of neck, circumscribe the white patch behind eye. Antenna 1.5 X as long as body in ; scape extended beyond anterior margin of prothorax, punctulate, pubescence dense but decumbent; dorsal of 3 & 4 feebly canaliculate; 3 as long as prothorax, subequal to 5; 3 - 8 (9 - 11 missing) complanate; 4 half as long as 3; 3 - 5 punctulate. Prothorax 1.5 X as long as broad; side concave; widest at middle, as wide as elytra; disc with a glabrous median line not reaching apex or base; pronotum with 4 blunt protuberance side of middle in the anterior and posterior; 2 white pubescent spots in front of the former; remaining area punctate; antero-lateral of side with another obstuse glabrous protuberance; prosternum punctate with weak transverse striate. Elytron 5.5 X as long as broad; disc granulate at 1/4 from base; coarsely punctate nearer to 2/3 from base and gradually punctulate towards apex; punctures setaceous. Legs : fore and mid coxae raised above intercoxal process; fore femora shorter than both hind pairs, clavate, peduncle obscure; 2 & 3 femora strongly clavate at apical half, peduncle at basal half, all finely punctulate and pubescent.

Measurement : Length 15.0 - 16.0 mm (); breadth 3.5 - 4.0 mm ()

Distribution : Sarawak; Phillipines; Bouru; Dorey.

Note : Aurivillius (1912) placed this species under the synonym of E. philippensis (NEWMAN) but Hudepohl (1990a) examined both type and concluded that they are distinctively 2 good species. Examnes philippensis has dense whitish pubescence on margin of disc while E. longicornis has spots of yellowish-white pubescence in the anterior of both side of middle, it also has the median smooth line and 2 whitish pubescent spots behind the eyes.
