Genus Epianthe Pascoe Epianthe Pascoe, 1866, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 511 (type-species : E. viridis Pasc., 1866) loc. cit.; 1869, Trans. Ent. Soc. Lond., ser 3, 3 : 649. - Aurivillius, 1912, Coleopt. Diagnostic characters : head moderately exserted; frons subhorizontal, planate; eyes moderately emarginate; antennae shorter than body, gradually thicken towards apex; antennal support widely separated; 3 as long as 2; 4 & 5 subequal; subsequent segments gradually shorten; prothorax longer than broad, depressed, base and apex constricted; elytra depressed, parallel-sided at basal half, wider posteriorly and gradually curved towards apex; epipleura distinctive; femora peduncle-clavate; first abdominal segment subequal to 2+3 united.
Epianthe viridis PASCOE
Mouth parts, labrum, aclypeus and mandible brownish, remainder of head metallic blue-green; antennae fuscous; prothorax black tinge with metallic blue-green, ventral of basal constriction cover with whitish pubescence; scutellum black; elytra bright metallic green, 1/3 of outer marginal half violaceous, mat; undersurfaces densely clothed with compact adpressed whitish pubescence except anterior of prosternum that is glossy fuscous; front legs ochraceous; mid and hind pairs blackish fuscous with the tarsus testaceous. Body generally planate at dorsal and ventral. Head exserted, as long as prothorax; frons and clypeus wide, planate, coarsely puncto-striate; vertex and gula also punctate. Antenna shorter than body, extended to half of elytra; 2 - 4 cylindrical, slender; 5 - 11 subelavate, complanate; scape puncto-striate; 3 twice as long as scape; 4 a little longer than 2; 5 bilaterally widen to apex; 6 - 10 squarish; 11 rounded at apex. Prothorax longer than broad; depressed dorsally; apex transversely constricted with parallel sides; base also constricted but sides convex; area between apical and basal constriction swollen, broadly bilobe posteriorly with convex margin; swollen portion on pronotum coarsely puncto-striate. Elytron 6 X as long as broad; parallel-sided at basal half, slightly wider at 2/5 from apex, gradually conjointly curved at apex; disc very flat, external margin sinuate, coarsely puncto-striate to granulo-punctulate especially near the tip. Legs : hind femora disproportional lengthen, peduncle curved, a little more than 2 X the length of clavated apex which extended beyond elytral apex; peduncle of mid and hind femora carinate.
