longer than labial, both very conspicuous; prothorax longer than broad, base
constricted and to a less degree at apex; fore coxal cavity open posteriorly;

Body very small; head brownish castaneous; labrum, labial and maxillary palpi testaceous brown; scape glossy flavotestaceous, endoapical tip fulvescent; remaining antennal segments fuscous, segment 3 - 5 with sparse tawny bristles, 6 - 11 with dense ochraceous pubescence; pronotum, elytra, ventral of pro-, meso- and metathorax fuscous with sparse whitish pubescence; base of first abdominal segment and all abdominal suture luteous, the rest fuscous; all femora and tibiae ferrugineous with tawny bristles; all tarsal segments testaceous except first hind tarsal segment that is fuscous. Head short, vertical in front; ventral horizontal,
triangular when view from side, most of mandible concealed under labrum and
clypeus making the anterior transversely truncated; maxillary and labial palpi
conspicuous; labrum., setose; anterior margin of gula transverse, rectilinear;
frons flat with a short transverse sulcus between gena, closely punctate;
antennal insertion far from mandible, widely separated, as wide as external
genal margin; antennifer feebly raised; canthus obsolete or absent; neck short.
Antenna shorter than body in Holotype (UNIMAS Coll.) Distribution : Sarawak Known habitat : playing ground beside a riverine town, facing a secondary forest. Note : this species is placed under the genus Molorchus Fabricius as it fit the nominative generic description except for the non-tuberculate prothorax. It did not belong to the genus Epania Pascoe due to the fore coxal cavity that open posteriorly, very slender abdomen and for not having the strongly reticulo-puinctate prothorax. |
