Diagnostic characters : head short and broad; antennal insertion approximate; antennae filiform; scape stout, as long as 2+3 united; segment 2 longer than wide; 11 oblong-ovate, twice as long as segment 10; prothorax elongated, strongly dorsally raised and curved in front, apex as wide as head, base strongly constricted; elytra subvertically curved at sides, very convex; elytral disc biconvex, transversely constricted at middle; apex conjointly rounded, not spine; femora peduncle-clavate; fore intercoxal process narrow and elongated, the epimeron curved inwards to meet it; tarsal claws minute. Generally small size (~ 5 mm) and ant-liked.
Clytellus westwoodi PASCOE
Body shinny; head and antennae entirely black; 5 - 6 apical segment of the latter with whitish pubescence; prothorax glossy black, latero-posterior of basal margin and ventral of prosternum with whitish pubescence; elytra glossy black, disc. with very few scattered bristles, apex with tuff of whitish pubescence; undersurfaces black; sterna and abdominal segments with dense silky white pubescence; legs black, apical portion of femora tinge with castaneous; apical-dorsal of hind femora clothed with silky slivery pubescence. Head short; vertical in front; mandible short, abruptly bent at middle ending with a conical acute molar; clypeus and frons at same plane; the former elliptical, separated from the latter by a crescentric carina, continue with anterior genal margin forming a semicircular ridge; frons parallel-sided, planate; gena produced and bulging below eyes. Antenna a little shorter than body; filiform; scape stout, tumid, larger in diameter; segment 2 widen to apex, longer than wide, 1/2 as long as 3; 3 - 5 feebly nodose at apical tip; 6 - 9 widen to apex; 11 elongated, oblong-oval, 2 X as long as 10. Prothorax elongated; glabrous; strongly constricted at 1/3 from base; basal constriction very much narrower than elytra; 2/3 of apical half gradually widen from base to anterior; apex as wide as head, slightly or as wide as elytra; from side profile, 2/3 apical half strongly dilated, curved anteriorly and convex; epimeron wide, as broad as basal constriction, extended inwards to meet with intercoxal process. Scutellum triangular; subvertical. Elytron 1.5 X as long as head and prothorax combined; strongly convex, subvertically curved at sides; humeral angle knobbed; transversely constricted at middle; each with 2 oblique, parallel sulci at middle of constriction; disc biconvex; apical half roundish, semihemispheric; entire surface glabrous except for the apical tuff of whitish pubescence; lateral deflexion overhanging and completely cover abdomen. Abdomen : shortly ovate; first segment as long as and symmetrical to remaining united. Legs : femora strongly peduncle-clavate; peduncle of fore femora upcurved at base; peduncle of mid and hind femora 2 X as long as clavated portion; the latter a little extended beyond elytral apex; tarsal claws minute, hardly divaricate. Measurement : Length 4.0 - 6.0 mm; breadth l.0 - 1.5 mm Distribution : Sarawak; Peninsular Malaysia.
