Draco nigriappendiculatus E. Bartlett. 1895. J. Str. Br. Royal Asiatic Soc. 1895(28): 82. (type locality: “Kuching, Sarawak” [01° 28’N; 110° 19’E; East Malaysia; Borneo]; the two syntypes are untraced, and cannot be found in the SM [see Smith, 1931].).

Type locality: BMNH RR 1946.8.26.87-90 (formerly BMNH 86.12.28.8-11; syntypes), from “Malay Peninsula...Malacca” (= Melaka; ca. 02° 12’N; 102° 15’E; West Malaysia).

Distribution: Peninsular Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and the Natuna Islands (Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 171; Musters, 1983: 62).

Localities in Borneo: SARAWAK: Tubau Camp on Sungei Pesu, Bintulu District (AMNH 111839-43; 111845-46; CAS 106001; KU 155764-71; MVZ 111804-11); Tubau Camp on Sungei Metallun (AMNH 111844); Santubong (Denzer, 1996); Lawas (BMNH 97.12.30.45-46); Baram River (BMNH 99.12.9.2); Balingean (BMNH 1904.7.19.40); Base Camp of Gunung Mulu (BMNH 1979.882-892); Camp I of Gunung Mulu National Park (BMNH 1979.893-894); BRUNEI: Batu Apoi (Das, 1995, based on UBD 12, 57); SABAH: Samarang River, near Sandakan (ZRC 2.644); Sandakan (BMNH 95.9.11.9); Bettotan (ZRC 2.645); 12 miles north of Kalabakam, Tawau Residency (KU 125408); Gunung Rava, Tawau (UMS 01863); Brumas, 75 km NW Tawau (ANSP 28645-46); Imbak River, 100 km WNW Tawau (ANSP 28647).

Derivation: Greek for black-bearded, for the black gular sacs of males.
