Type localities: USNM 130228 (holotype), USNM 130229 (formerly FMNH 71856; paratype), from “Bundu Tuhan, Mount Kina Balu, North Borneo...4,500 feet” (05° 58’N; 116° 32’E, Sabah State, East Malaysia); FMNH 67326 (paratype; fide Marx, 1976), from “Trusan River area, Fifth Division, Sarawak” (04° 55’N; 115° 10’E, East Malaysia; Borneo).

Distribution: Endemic to Borneo (Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 196).

Localities in Borneo: SARAWAK: Trusan River, Lawas (FMNH 67326); Mount Batu Song (BMNH 1892.10.7.3); Camp 2, Gunung Mulu National Park (BMNH 1978.1847); SABAH: Jesselton District, Ranau (Inger, 1960); Bundu Tuhan, Mount Kinabalu (FMNH 71856);  Liwago Trail in Kinabalu Park (Malkmus, 1996; Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 195); Sayap, Kinabalu (BMNH 1896.4.29.5); Marak Parak, Kinabalu (SP 06096); Mount Kinabalu (BMNH 1894.6.30.13; 1895.11.7.10); Long Pa Sia, Sipitang (UKMS [at present UMS] Re. 0676); KALIMANTAN: Maruwai, Central Kalimantan (RBS 18-182, at present MZB uncat.).

Derivation: Latin implying an inhabitant of Borneo.
