Type locality: The holotype was in the collection of Creveld, and is untraced at present; type locality not mentioned in the original description.

Distribution: Central Nicobars in India, southern Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Enggano, Java and Borneo (Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 247).

Localities in Borneo: SARAWAK: Mengiong River, Nanga Tekalit, Third Division (UMMZ 154367-69; 154377-78); Lambir Hills (Das and Charles, 1993, based on ZRC 2.3387); Mount Dulit (De Rooij, 1915: 60, based on BMNH 1900.1.23.1), Balingean (De Rooij, 1915: 60, based on BMNH 1904.7.19.49), Kuching, Pankalan Ampat in Mount Penrissen (De Rooij, 1915: 60); Baram River (ZRC 2.1475-79); Mount Matang (AMNH 57233); BRUNEI: Sungei Rampayoh (Das, 1999, based on UBD 326); Ulu Temburong, Temburong (BM 81/62); SABAH: Sepilok Forest Reserve (Hikida and Ota, 1988); Sandakan (ZRC 2.1473); Danum Valley (Tan, 1993: 8, probably based on UMS 01000); Gunung Rava, Tawau, (UMS 01505 [2 examples]); Kampung Kambau, Penampang (SSM 127); Purulon, Tenom (UKMS [at present UMS] Re. 1026); KALIMANTAN: Marah (De Jong, 1928; based on ZMA 15344). Derivation: For Dr. Heinrich Kuhl (1797-1821), assistant to Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858), who went to Java with Johan Coenraad van Hasselt (1797-1823) (see Anon, 1823, for an obituary, and Fransen et al., 1997, for a biography).

Remarks: Ptychozoon kuhli Stejneger, 1902, is a replacement name for Lacerta homalocephala Creveld, 1809, which is preoccupied by Lacerta homalocephala Suckow, 1798.
