Type
locality: FMNH 128388 (holotype), FMNH 109955-60; FMNH 119904; FMNH 119915; FMNH
128387-89 (paratypes), from “Great Cave, Niah Fourth Division, Sarawak” (03°
53’N; 113° 43’E, in East Malaysia, Borneo; see Marx, 1966). CAS 23726
(formerly FMNH) is one of the paratypes. See Marx (1976).
Distribution:
Endemic to northern Borneo (Hikida, 1990).
Localities
in Borneo: Niah Caves (types referred to above; also BMNH 1984.705; CAS-SU
23726; FMNH 131501-10); Melinau Gorge, Mulu National Park (Hikida, 1990).
Derivation:
Latin for cave-dweller.
Remarks:
Chapman (1985) reported a species of Cyrtodactylus
that resembled C. cavernicolus
from Wonder Cave, Mount Api, in Mulu National Park, eastern Sarawak.
