Remarks: The species as understood at present is suspected to represent a complex (R. Crombie, unpubl.). Kluge (1991) recognised Gekko tuberculosus (Daudin, 1836) as having priority over G. monarchus (Duméril & Bibron, 1836). The nomenclatural problems surrounding these two names have been discussed by Brygoo (1991) and Bauer (1994).
