Type
locality: MNHN 5323 (two syntype; fide Guibé, 1954: 12), from "l’île
d’Otaiti" (= Tahiti, Society Islands, South Pacific).
Distribution:
Maldives, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, south to
south-east Asia, including Borneo, Riao, Sulawesi, Ternate, New Guinea, and east
to eastern China and Taiwan, Diego Garcia, Salomon and Peros Banhos Atoll in the
Chagos Archipelago (Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 242).

6).
Derivation:
Latin for doleful or mournful, in allusion to its sombre colouration.
