Type locality: Not located, being unlisted in the catalogue of MSNG by Capocaccia (1961), from “Sereinu (Sipora), Mentawei Islands” (= Sipoera, 02° 12’S; 99° 40’E; Sumatera Province, Indonesia).

Distribution: Southern Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, the Malay Peninsula, the Mentawei Archipelago, Sumatra and Borneo (Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 267; Tanner, 1953; Welch et al., 1990: 82).

Localities in Borneo: SARAWAK: Baram District (De Rooij, 1915: 232, based on BMNH 97.3.4.2); Labang Camp on Sungei Seran (FMNH 147561; 149371-74); Kota Samarahan (ZRC 2.4677); SABAH: Danum Valley Field Centre (FMNH 241315-16; 241316; 246356-57).

Derivation: Latin for carrying stripes.
