(08º 08’N; 93º 30’E, in the Bay of Bengal, India).
Distribution:
Nicobar Islands of India, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Java and Bali
(Manthey and Grossmann, 1997: 274; Welch et al., 1990: 88).
Localities
in Borneo: SARAWAK: Kuching, First Division (Brown, 1902; De Rooij, 1915: 161),
Mount Matang, First Division (De Rooij, 1915: 161; based on BMNH 72.2.19.19);

Derivation:
Latin for (bearing) rough (scales).
Remarks:
Allocated to the genus Dasamia by
Horton (1973), along with Mabuya
multicarinata (Gray, 1845), with
a distribution over the Philippines and the north-eastern coast of Borneo (see
Fig. 3 in Horton, 1973). Greer (1977) returned these species to Mabuya Fitzinger, 1826. Das (2000) showed that the description of Tiliqua
rugifera was validly published in Stoliczka (1870a), rather than in
Stoliczka (1870c), as mentioned by most workers (e.g., Boulenger, 1887: 184;
1890: 190; Smith, 1935: 273).
